History

Aarke was founded in Stockholm in 2013 by industrial designers Carl Ljungh and Jonas Groth. The company was established around a straightforward proposition: frequently used kitchen appliances deserve the same attention to form, material and mechanical detail as furniture or lighting.

Its first category-defining success was the home carbonator. Instead of concealing the mechanism inside a large plastic housing, Aarke developed a compact, manually operated appliance with a stainless-steel enclosure. That product established the visual and engineering language now carried through the wider range.

Aarke has since expanded into water filtration, kettles and coffee equipment while retaining its Stockholm design base. The company calls its approach “everyday engineering”, describing products in which aesthetics, functionality and durability are developed together rather than added as separate layers.

The current collection should be read product by product. For example, the Carbonator 3 is designed and engineered in Sweden and manufactured in China, while its compatible bottles, cylinders and care requirements are specific to the pressure system. How does the Aarke Carbonator 3 work?

The Carbonator 3 uses a screw-in CO₂ cylinder and a manual lever to carbonate cold water in the supplied Aarke PET bottle. It is cordless and requires no electricity. Aarke recommends one to three lever pumps for normal carbonation; more pumps create a stronger result. Only plain water should be carbonated unless the instructions for the exact model state otherwise.

Which CO₂ cylinders work with the Aarke Carbonator 3?

The Carbonator 3 accepts standard screw-in 400–425 g / 60 L CO₂ cylinders approved for sparkling-water makers, including compatible cylinders from AGA, Linde and SodaStream. It is not compatible with SodaStream Quick Connect cylinders. Cylinder standards differ in Australia and New Zealand, so machines sold there use the locally specified cylinders.

Can I use a glass bottle or another brand’s bottle with the Carbonator 3?

No. The Carbonator 3 must be used with the compatible Aarke PET Water Bottle. Aarke states that other bottles should not be used because the bottle is designed for the machine’s pressure system. The Aarke Glass Bottle Pro is exclusively for the Carbonator Pro, whose protective chamber is designed for carbonation in glass.

How much water does the Aarke PET bottle hold?

The standard Aarke PET bottle holds approximately one litre, but the marked carbonation fill line is 800 ml. The small PET bottle holds 650 ml in total with a 450 ml carbonation fill line. Filling only to the marked line leaves the headspace required for safe carbonation and helps prevent water entering the machine.
