Designed by Gian Franco Legler Switzerland. With a fascinating background spanning architecture, interior design and chemical plastics, Legler's early designs still resonate today. His most widely acclaimed design, the Basket Chair (1951), received a good design award from the MoMA in New York. Originally designed for a restaurant in Italy, its beauty and simplicity have made it a classic the world over.
The chair is made from Rattan, this is very good for the planet. A climbing palm with over 600 species that grows in tropical regions of Asia and

Africa. Also known as ‘wicker’

Rattans growth habit (it clings to other trees) and potential as a NTFP (non timber forest product) can encourage sustainable forest practices that protect exiting vegetation. Rattan is a biodegradable, renewable resource. Rattan harvesting leaves a small environmental footprint when forests are managed sustainably.

Products made with rattan use less energy and emit less C02 and other harmful emissions compared to products made with synthetic materials.
