Made from the London Plane tree, these boards bring a delicately crafted beauty into your home.
Hand carved and comfortable to hold – smooth to touch and a joy to use.
Every one is different, and every board is loved – even before it finds a home.Plane trees come down often around London, and Hampson Woods work closely with an arborist who is able to collect and plank these towering giants of the city. They know the provenance of all of our pieces. Sometimes they have photos too.
Once in the hands of Hampson Woods, each part of the tree is considered, and the shapes of unmade pieces will start to reveal themselves. They rough-cut these pieces and allow for any future movement in the wood. Once they have ascertained the integrity of each piece, they then start to whittle and carve, relating to the same lines that the tree itself chose to follow.
Only by considering, handling and patiently crafting in this way, can you hope to do justice to the beauty that lies within the grain of the finished piece. And you can tell.
Nb. every board is unique and the one that finds your table will differ slightly from the one photographed.
Finished with HW Wood Balm : mineral oil, beeswax, carnauba wax, essence of juniper and orange.
Dimensions (approx): 475 x 115 x 17mm
Please note, some images may include our Dyke & Dean logo as a watermark which does not appear on the product itself and that some colours and finishes may vary due to screen calibration.
