PORTUGUESE ROCK SALT
On warmer, windless days, a film of very fine salt crystals forms on the surface of the butchery, which is carefully collected and then dried and which becomes the Flor de Sal.
The salt flats in Rio Maior have eight centuries of history.
They are a rock salt mine, very extensive and deep, crossed by an underground stream that feeds a well from which water is extracted, seven times more salty than that of the ocean.
They maintain a typical and artisanal exploration process that makes them one of the greatest natural resources in Ribatejo.
