L'ascesa del pittogramma ha senso. Non richiede competenze linguistiche, né straniere né indigene. È autoesplicativo. I pittogrammi dei bagni pubblici sono sicuramente uno degli esempi di design intuitivo più ampiamente accettati e di successo. Se tutto il design pubblico fosse così razionale ed ovvio, la vita, ovviamente, potrebbe essere meno divertente di quanto non lo sia quando confrontata e sfidata felicemente da segni che ci fanno sorridere, o ridere con un misto di imbarazzo e senso di colpa.

Uno dei migliori primi esempi di segnaletica globale intuitiva per i bagni pubblici è stato quello creato per British Rail a metà degli anni '60. Nell'ambito di un importante programma di ammodernamento, la DRU [Design Research Unit], uno studio di design fondato da Marcus Brumwell e Misha Black nel 1943, ha conferito alle ferrovie statali una nuova e globale identità aziendale. Lavorando con Margaret Calvert e Jock Kinneir, che ha progettato un caratteristico carattere tipografico Rail Alphabet basato su Helvetica, DRU ha ideato un'estetica pulita e convincentemente moderna che è stata applicata a tutte le locomotive, treni, stazioni, materiale pubblicato e, sì, insegne per servizi igienici.

Si tratta di un design senza tempo che funzionerà con una varietà di stili interni. Sono stati prodotti in Germania dagli anni '70.

All lead times quoted are for delivery to mainland UK, if ordering outside of this area there will be an additional transit time relevant to your destination.

US customers will be subject to additional tariffs as well as import duties and tax. Our team will be in touch after your order has been placed to confirm the individual tariff rates for each item. Orders will not be processed until you have confirmed that you accept the tariff rates and give consent for the order to be shipped.

Our returns policy lasts for 14 days. If 14 days have gone by since your purchase has been delivered, unfortunately we cannot offer you a refund or exchange.

Goods / Returns must be received to Dyke & Dean within 14 days of being delivered to you. If Goods / Returns are received after this we will not issue a refund. Notification to our office of your return via telephone, email, fax and or letter within 14 days does not mean a refund will be given. A refund will only be reviewed if the Goods / Returns are received within 14 days to our possession.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. Customers are responsible for the delivery costs of returning the goods. 

Bespoke/Made to order products, cut lengths of fabric cable under 100m and Outlet items are non-returnable.
